Jay sounded very tired tonight too. (And tomorrow is our last night of free mobile-to-mobile phone calls to Haiti-- after Sunday, it will cost Verizon customers $2.89/minute). His clothes were mostly dry after a night on the clothesline. And he enjoyed the hot dinner as well-- although he described heated vienna sausages with rice and vanilla wafers for dessert. :)
A team from Ecuador joined the camp today. They are able to help with rounds and lots of the work, but they don't have an anesthesiologist-- so that's not as helpful.
One of the team's three anesthesiologists, Pat McQuillan (our HMC anesthesiologist) will be leaving tomorrow due to a previous commitment overseas-- so the team will only be able to run 2 ORs after this.
Someone donated a "tent OR" that has a wooden (read: not dusty) floor with its own AC. In addition, the team was able to utilize a "real OR" at a local women's day surgery center about 2 miles down the road; they just had to transport the patient to the building. Both were great advances in the surgical care of patients.
Some of the team may be leaving on Tuesday evening to head for Santo Domingo-- and flying back on Wednesday to the US-- but some may need to stay to be the "transition" team.
