The team has been headquartered at the McGee's home all afternoon and evening in meetings. They were able to hear firsthand from an OB-Gyn from Virginia Beach who was in Haiti at the time of the quake-- and had to run a hospital with only four other staff for two days while the other staff spread out to look for family members. She was able to give the team a more realistic idea of what things will be like.
The advance team of four were in Port-au-Prince today, meeting with USAid and the Haitian government. They are in the process of determining what location would serve the needs of the people the best-- and how to get elecricity and clean water to that site. So, much is still up in the air.
The private 737 is landing in Norfolk at 3am this morning-- and after the required rest for the pilots, will leave for Santo Domingo, DR around 2pm. They do have clearance to land now-- probably around 6pm. The team will head out to the airfield between 11am-noon to supervise the packing of the hold with supplies.
Once in Haiti, the team does not expect to have much ability to communicate via phone or e-mail. Possibly short reports via Blackberry.
